What is hCG?

faq hcg diethCG is the acronym for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, a substance produced by the placenta during pregnancy in huge amounts. It was discovered by Ascheim and Zondek in the urine of pregnant women, back as long ago as 1927.

After its discovery, scientists tried to find a name for this substance, and when they observed that the administration of hCG helped to provoke ovulation in experimentation animals, they named their discovery Gonadotropin, which means it has an action on gonads (testicles or ovaries) and Chorionic because later it was found was produced by the Chorium of the placenta.

It is a hormone that is produced naturally in the human body. Commonly referred to as “the pregnancy hormone”, hCG is what allows a woman’s body to metabolize fat and convert it to needed energy for both she and her fetus. This acts as an assured natural bodily function when an immediate need for energy is present.

When used in weight loss protocol, a tiny amount of HCG is used, and using hCG in this manner it can confidently and safely be used by women and men alike.

How does hCG actually work?

hCG reduces feelings of hunger. This allows them to eat very little comfortably. Why? The presence of HCG in the bloodstream takes the appetite away. In pregnant women, HCG often causes feelings of nausea in the early stages of pregnancy.

HCG is a pro-hormone that helps the body make more hormones. Since hormone deficiency or imbalance is usually part of the reason for weight gain, whether it’s your thyroid, or menopause (or andropause), this hormone offers help.

HCG injections have been shown to raise blood levels of HCG, so that is the more effective way of taking HCG at this time (about 20-30%). The hormone keeps you from losing muscle while you diet.

By elevating hormone levels in the body, including testosterone, the HCG hormone helps to create an anabolic state (muscle-building) which counteracts the catabolic state (muscle breakdown). There are hormone receptors on muscle fibers that respond to the increased hormone levels in patients taking the HCG hormone.

Why does that matter?

During a fast, dramatic loss of pounds with crash dieting, there is a high amount of muscle that is lost. Because muscle is heavy, this loss looks good on the scale because the pounds are dropping quickly.

When you lose muscle, it’s bad for your body, shape, and metabolism. The metabolism slows so much that the dieter regains weight quickly, often regaining all the weight that was lost and then some. Additionally, it takes quite a bit of work to build back the muscle that has been lost.

The hCG protocol, however, protects muscle from being lost. In fact, there is more of a pure fat loss, which causes a shrinking in inches and size of clothing with the HCG diet.

The great result is that one can become leaner, in a smaller clothing size, but with more muscle. This muscle allows for a stronger metabolism and helps people maintain their weight loss long after their diet is completed.

At the end of a course, it is almost invariably found that the girth is as many centimeters less as the number of kilograms by which the weight has been reduced.

The HCG weight loss system could indeed thus also be referred to as the inches lost system!

A remarkable aspect of the hCG weight loss system is that with your body getting the majority of the nourishment it needs from your stored fat reserves, you do not feel the hunger that would certainly result if you tried to diet by reducing calorie intake alone.

The calorie intake is the same for a small or medium height female as that for a very tall or larger male. Your body will just take more to meet its requirement from your stored reserves.

Males do tend to lose more weight than females and can also often lose weight more quickly. Females will however often lose more “inches” or reduction in measurements.

How and where is it manufactured?

hCG is manufactured in FDA approved laboratories in the US. The usual procedure is the extraction of hCG from the urine of pregnant women. hCG has been available since 1930, and NO complications were EVER reported regarding its manufacturing. It is safe and highly time-tested. Back to list

Why do we use a “pregnancy” substance for obesity treatment?

dr simeons
Dr. A.T.W. Simeons

This was discovered by the renowned British Physician, Dr. ATW Simeons:

Working in India, he noticed that the so-called “fat boys,” who showed Adiposogenital dystrophy improved their undescended testis when they were treated with hCG. But he also observed that body fat distribution modified during the treatment course.

Therefore he hypothesized that if those children were concomitantly submitted to a very Hypocaloric diet they could reduce their body weight, consuming the “fat on the move”.

The first report on the use of hCG for the management of obesity was published in 1954 by Dr. ATW Simeons when practicing at the Ospedale Salvatori Mundii in Rome.

He later investigated patients showing varying degrees of obesity and concluded that hCG might be useful for the treatment of obesity because:

Patients tolerated a VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) without suffering headaches irritability, or weakness, so common to this approach for weight reduction.

The maintenance period after treatment was more effective when compared with regular dietetic procedures.

Weight reductions were more satisfactory than those obtained with Standard Hypocaloric Diets

Patients lost more body fat (measured in centimeters) from those regions where adipose tissue accumulations were more conspicuous.

He hypothesized that hCG acted at the diencephalic level, modulating hypothalamic regulatory Centers, which were in turn responsible for the excessive fat accumulation as seen in obesity.

Do I need to follow a special diet while on the HCG diet protocol?

YES, however, the HCG diet supplied with the HCG diet system is made up of controlled daily servings of protein, carbohydrates, fruit, and vegetables. It is NOT a starvation diet and you will indeed feel remarkably well while on the diet.

Obviously, we supply you with complete dietary information at the start of your program, which includes many, many recipes, tips, and advice to ensure you feel great whilst losing those pounds and inches.

What is the main benefit of using the hCG diet system to treat obesity?

you lose weight fasthCG-treated patients lose more body fat than non treated patients, i.e. patients on a regular very low calorie diet. And fat content is the kernel of the disease we call obesity.

When evaluating the efficiency of any obesity treatment, we must assess whether the procedure decreases body fat to a greater extent when compared to other approaches.

We do not have to assess weight loss, we assess the fat loss. If your body is losing fat, the weight loss will follow automatically.

Are there other benefits from the use of hCG for obesity treatment?

feeling great with hcgYes indeed!

Patients report that they feel terrific throughout the treatment period. They sleep well, have none of the normal headaches and irritability common with very low calorie diets and they feel strong. Their skin condition improves and they look healthy.

Many cannot wait to report the decrease in body circumferences! Their clothes fit so much better and due to the fast decrease in body fat that is taking place, a complete remodeling of the body contour is reported. No other obesity treatment can decrease the amount of body fat and this also obviously contributes to that amazing feeling of well-being.

Also, they notice a decrease in the size of their body circumferences, referred to as “Clothes fit fine, better than any other regular diet”. A very important remodeling of body contour is observed (due to the fact that the hCG+diet decreases body fat better than any other obesity treatment).

Does the hCG diet system cure obesity?

No. Obesity is a disease whose origin is a permanent disorder in the hypothalamic area, a region deep inside the brain. The hypothalamus is a small structure within the brain that plays a key role in controlling our “Autonomous Nervous System”.

Regulating the homeostatic metabolic processes in our bodies is part of its function which include eating, thirst, sleeping, body temperature, blood pressure, and electrolyte balance.

The hypothalamus influences and in part determines your metabolic rate level or set point. As we age, our hypothalamus progressively accumulates toxins, causing it to malfunction.

This is partially the reason why our metabolism slows down as we age causing hormonal/ovulatory disruptions and other “aging” symptoms such as difficulty sleeping throughout the night.

You can also find lots of information about the hypothalamus on page 10 of Dr. Simeon’s book Pounds and Inches but the video below explains it in plain English at the 1 minute 50 second mark.

What hCG does do is render the weight loss process safe, and comfortable, and the maintenance period after the treatment is much easier to perform.

Will HCG Interact with cause problems or conflict with any medications I’m now taking?

Absolutely not! HCG will not interact with any medications. It has safely been taken since the 1950s and no side effects have ever been reported. This includes statins, birth control pills and injections.

Must I exercise while on the HCG diet system?

excerciseAgain absolutely not. In fact, strenuous exercise may just leave you feeling exhausted with not much weight reduction to show for your efforts! We recommend 20-30 minutes of walking daily as walking is a great stress reliever, it keeps your bowels moving and conditions your cardiovascular system.

There is plenty of time to get back to your regular exercise routine after you have completed your course and are on the maintenance part of the course.
