Over Eating At Night


Do you struggle with overeating at night?

You come home from a long day and go straight to the fridge. Does this sound like you?
Somehow, something happens, that the minute you walk in the door you want to eat until you go to bed at night.

What does night time eating look like?

You come home and head straight for the fridge or pantry
You eat mindlessly as you cook and justify it as tasting.
Your after dinner entertainment is to sit on the couch and eat.
You find ít hard to watch TV without eating or Nibbling on something.
As you are watching TV you are zoned out and not really aware of the taste of what you are eating or how full your tummy feels.
You only have one huge meal at night.
You snack from the minute you come home until you go to sleep
You bring out the treats secretly when others have gone to sleep

These are some of the common reasons for over eating at night

You skip meals during the day or limit your food intake, so your body is ravenous by the time you get home.
You are so stressed and anxious during the day that coming home to eat is a relief from the pressures of the day that send you straight to the fridge or glass of wine to unwind.

Eating has become your only source of pleasure because you are not having enough fun or relaxation in your life. You use food to help you unwind or cope with difficult emotions, boredom, loneliness, procrastination etc
This then becomes a habit.

Now we know what overeating at night looks like and what most likely is the cause?

If you eat regular meals during the day it is more satisfying to the body.
Make sure to drink enough water during the day and evening, being less than well hydrated can make one think you are hungry. Sit down to eat dinner don’t eat in front of the TV. If feeling stressed or worried have a long soak in the bath, with some candles and soothing music. Learn a little bit about meditation …many guided short meditation clips available. Keep a journal and list the benefits to yourself and your loved ones of losing weight and getting healthier. Phone a friend.

Do you have a pic of what you would like to achieve ….if not get one and put it close by where you can see it all the time …a very good place is on your fridge which will stop you from grabbing something to snack on. Make sure you get enough , when tired one gets irritable and we are then tempted to grab a quick snack…which only serves to make us feel good for a few moments but we are then left feeling so guilty….and once again the feelings of stress and anxiety, which is an eternal vicious circle.
